What is Behavioural Detection Early Intervention (BDEI) training
Behavioural detection and early intervention (BDEI) training will educate personnel about baselining and the behavioural idiosyncrasies of themselves and others. The aim is to enable security personnel to better understand and adapt into their operating environment, enable them to maximise their interactions with others to give them a greater ability to detect hostile intentions, and develops confidence and capability to detect threat and correctly act on it to disrupt hostile activity.
An advantage of this training is to teach personnel to better operate under duress and stress by developing confidence in their expertise and capabilities and teaching them to master their operating environment.

Course format
Our BDEI training course is a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on, practical exercises. Here’s what you can expect:

Classroom-based training
In the initial phase of the course, participants will learn key concepts such as identifying non-verbal cues and understanding the psychology of threat actors. We use a combination of government-produced materials and Toro's own engaging, interactive training resources to ensure participants are fully engaged.

Real-world application
After classroom sessions, participants move into their own work environment to apply their knowledge. They will engage in scenario-based exercises, where they’ll practise identifying and intervening in potential threat situations. This real-world application solidifies their learning and boosts their confidence.

Small group training
To ensure the training is personalised, we limit each group to just four participants. This allows for more direct interaction with the instructor, personalised feedback, and a more tailored experience for each attendee.
What our BDEI clients say
Key benefits of Behavioural Detection Early Intervention (BDEI) Training
Despite the benefits of Behavioural Detection Early Intervention BDEI, we understand that time constraints can pose a challenge. Traditional courses are often lengthy, taking several days to complete, which might not be feasible for busy teams.
Heightened awareness of threat actors
BDEI training enhances the ability to spot potential threat actors early on. By understanding behavioural cues, security staff can detect suspicious individuals or activities long before they become major security concerns. With this knowledge, personnel can act swiftly to prevent threats from materialising.
Understanding vulnerabilities in the workplace
Security staff trained in BDEI have a heightened awareness of their workplace’s vulnerabilities. By understanding the areas where potential threats are most likely to manifest, they can take steps to improve security measures and reduce risks.
Improved interactions with others
Effective security is not only about threat detection; it's also about building positive relationships within the workplace. By understanding the behavioural patterns of tenants, employees, and visitors, security personnel can enhance communication, reduce conflict, and create a safer, more inclusive environment.
Enhanced ability to intervene early
With BDEI, personnel are taught how to detect and address concerning behaviour early, preventing escalation. This capability to intervene before hostile actions develop is a key benefit in reducing workplace violence and improving safety.
Building confidence under pressure
Security personnel often work under high stress and in challenging environments. BDEI training builds the confidence necessary to make sound decisions under pressure. By practising how to identify threats and respond effectively, staff develop the skills needed to handle even the most stressful situations.
